Rug Appraisals in Chicago & Evanston

Written rug appraisals in Chicago and Evanston: $300 for the first rug and $150 for each extra rug appraised at the same visit. For insurance, estates and resale, for Oriental, Persian, Afghan, Turkish, Caucasian, kilim, vintage and antique rugs.

What the written appraisal includes

• Identification: origin, type and design, and an age range.
• Construction and materials: hand-knotted or handwoven, wool, silk or cotton, and knot density.
• Exact measured size.
• Condition: wear, old repairs, moth damage, dry rot and color run.
• Photos and an appraised value, signed: replacement value for insurance, or fair market value for estates and resale.

Who writes it

Every appraisal is written and signed by Shams Frough, founder of Rugistan® (formerly Kapisa Rugs), as a rug specialist and dealer. He buys hand-knotted rugs in person in Afghanistan, and our two showrooms keep 1,400+ handmade rugs in stock.

How it works

1. Bring the rug, or rugs, to our Evanston or Chicago showroom. For large rugs or a whole estate, chat with us about pickup in the Chicago area.
2. We examine the front and the back, measure the rug and photograph it.
3. You get a signed, written appraisal.
4. Buy a rug or book cleaning with us within 30 days and the appraisal fee is credited toward it.

Free quick estimates

Not sure you need a written appraisal? Bring the rug in, or chat with us with a few photos, for a free verbal estimate.

Cleaning and repair while it is here

Many appraised rugs are due for a wash or a repair. We hand wash rugs from $2.50 per sq ft in Chicago and $3 in Evanston, and repair fringe, edges, holes and moth damage. See rug cleaning and repair.
