A vintage Caucasian silk soumak rug, circa 1950s-1970s, hand-woven using the soumak technique — a dense, flat-woven structure built by wrapping weft threads around the warp, giving a textured, embroidery-like surface rather than a pile. As is typical for a wider kilim of this kind, it was woven in two panels and joined down the center — photos show that center seam has partially separated and would benefit from a repair stitch.
